108. Big Day

July 21st 2015 is a big day for me.  A Big Day in my life.   A couple of years ago I mentioned this date to Caroline but even although the Big Day is now just over a week away, she hasn’t ever mentioned it.  Maybe she has forgotten.  I will be very disappointed if she has forgotten about it though, because it is such a Very Big Day - for me, at least.
I went into our local branch of Clinton Cards to see if they have a card to celebrate this particular day.  They do not.  I am very surprised by that because it is such a Big Day.
They have all the cards you would expect of course, such as birthday cards; cards to express sympathy for bereavement and cards to wish a speedy recovery after an illness but Clinton Cards does not have anything remotely suitable or appropriate to celebrate anyone’s Big Day.  So I won't be getting any cards.
I found that they stock cards that I would never have dreamt even existed, including more than 50 different styles of “Thank you, Teacher” cards.  What kind of brown nosed, Crawler buys and sends one of those?  I never received one, and if any teacher ever deserved a thank you card from a grateful student, I think it was me.  I’m sure you would agree.
It is too late for me to benefit from a change of heart by the card companies but it probably isn’t too late for you.  If you believe that your Big Day is worth celebrating, you should start agitating now.
July 21st will be Very Big Day for me because on that day I will have been alive for 600,000 hours or, to put it another, better and truly memorable way, for 25,000 days.  2,400 of those have been since my liver transplant.
Isn’t that something worthy of massive celebration?  I think it is.  It’s a much more significant event than a certain number of years (such as 70) because years vary in length, with every fourth year one day longer than the three before and after.
If you are younger than I am, go to:
and enter your date of birth and find your Big Day.  Use the American format so that my birth date, February 8th 1947 is written:  02/08/1947  (mm/dd/yyyy).
I won’t be having a party, on the 21st because July 21st is a Tuesday and I always get up very early on a Wednesday.

July 21st 2015

I had a wonderful surprise this morning.  Caroline has not forgotten and my Big Day and she gave me a present and a card.  It's not a 25,000th day card because they don't exist but it was nice to get something.
